Decoration above the door, called the ’soom bpra dtoo’ (ซุ้มประตู arched entrance?), has a seated Buddha:

First time the cat has seen one with a Buddha, & one that is not gold-coloured. Most are gold stucco, with elaborate designs of plants & animals. Cute how the ‘rays’ of the flame at the top are drawn with stick-like lines.

On the left (above) is a little grocery shop, & beside it is the path that leads to Sunset Guesthouse. Later tonight the cat would find its way back to the guesthouse in the darkness with the help of candles lit by the shop owner =)

Boun That Luang

Perhaps the most important festival in the Lao calender. Held in November to coincide with the full moon. There is a huge concentration of visitors during this 4 day long event. You really have to be there to enjoy the experience as words only fail to transmit the atmosphere.
